Re: hardware saturation
The TS500 is only 319 euro for the kit, if you can solder (it's not hard really once you get the hang of it). Add a cheapo 500 box and you can have a pair fairly cheaply. I havent run whole tracks through it, but the low end is enhanced nicely on individual elements. 808 style bass hits really benef...

Re: hardware saturation
I built a couple of SoundSkulptor TS500 tape saturation emulators that are pretty nice. I also recently dug up my old Alesis Microlimiter; that thing can flatten a signal reaaal nice.

Re: Saturation/distortion 2021
I borrowed one of those Neve tape emulators from a friend for a few weeks a year or so ago; I found what it did to be VERY subtle and not worth the money for me. I could get a slight smoothening sort of effect from it but it didn't like being pushed hard into cool, blown-out territory. I recently bu...

Re: Going Modular..
Have you any experience with Endorphin.es? I was listening to the Furthrrrr Generator last night and it sounded great, like some of the qualities I hear in Verbos but different. It's at the upper limit of what I am comfortable spending on a module so I am really not sure. I have not been interested...

Re: Going Modular..
I've been in the eurozone for about 8 years or so, and would concur with some of the stuff said here. How I break it down to an extent: 1. Think about what you can only do in modular and aim toward that. If you want a nice SH-101 sound or whatever, just get a fixed-architecture subtractive synth tha...

Re: Black Friday 2020
Loads of great deals at the moment but I'm not going rushin into buying anything as have loads allready. I picked up a nice plugin for free from waves called Echosphere, its a slap delay/plate verb. Havnt got a chance to play with it yet but it sounds great from what Ive heard. Am looking for a goo...

Re: klark Teknik pricing
What NOS valves did you use? I have a couple of the EQPs; they probably don't sound all that authentic but they are pretty nice for the money. I'd be interested in messing with some replacement tubes to see what happens. I have a pair of both compressors and the pultec. They are fantastic for the mo...

Re: Pedals or fx boxes you are into or wanna get?
I think I'm going to buy Red Panda particle and Dredbox Hypnosis as my next fx purchases. I had a Hypnosis for a few weeks and found it pretty disappointing: the whole thing sounds lofi and band-limited (which can be cool sometimes but not in this case for me) and the reverb overdrives too easily a...

Re: Any of you guys use an MPC?
I wouldn't agree on being able to sell mpcs these days. I was lucky to shift mine to a guy who wanted it to play crazy rhythms at Eastern European weddings. The 2500 is THE machine. I shit you not. See lots of them up for sale for a lonnng time & these are ones with upgrades, for a fair price. I do...

Re: Any of you guys use an MPC?
If are serious about wanting to limit yourself, I think it's a good idea. The workflow is immediate and tactile, and forces you to use your ears more than looking at a daw screen, IME. With an MPC, I find myself paying more attention to the nuances of drums, especially velocity and tuning. The fx ar...

Re: Hardware Samplers Roll Call _ E-MU & Akai
Thanks for that link man. I've probably already read it lol - but it was definitely a few years back if I did. Pretty nice way to get something. At least you know that it was probably well looked after. I reckon if you you dont think the filters rip too much, then you should definitely try adding s...

Re: Hardware Samplers Roll Call _ E-MU & Akai
I have an E6400 Ultra that a couple of mates bought back in '99 when they thought they'd make D'n'B tunes but they weren't tech savvy and never figured it out so I inherited a few years back. It's a great machine, although the much-hyped z-plane filters aren't actually all that exciting (although so...

Re: Expert Sleepers _ USAMO
I have a USAMO –as others have said, it's a bit fiddly to set up but works really well and the timing tightness is noticeable in comparison to a USB midi interface. The trick is getting the level of the audio input right –if it's off, the USAMO can seem to be working but the midi notes get weirdly t...

Re: Hardware compressor on Master Bus
At the risk of sounding like an tin-eared bourgeois hardware fetishist, I have an overstayer VCA compressor (SSL clone with some extra features) that I use on the master bus and I do think it sounds better than the plugins I have tried, especially when you push it hard. But like the lads say, you ca...

I have two of the KT pultecs –extreeeemely good for the price. I stick 'em on the master bus for a bit of sweetening. Great on lots of other things too.

Re: Link for logic?
I looked this up myself recently; they say: "Live can still send normal MIDI information out to external devices while being part of a Link session. However, when Link is enabled, Live cannot receive MIDI Sync input from any external MIDI source, nor can Live be a ReWire slave." https://help.ableton...

Re: Elektron Digitakt
Got one at the weekend too. Such a fun machine: it's probably too limited and quirky to be the brains of an entire setup but it's a great ideas box -throw in a load of weird samples and mess with the parameters until something cool comes out.
