Re: How to create a concept EP and define your sound?

With my (limited) experience on the matter, it really depends on the ability for you to exact your specific tastes on music consistently. If you find that your taste isn't so defined as to what sounds you like making, or what it is that you particularly want to accomplish with your sound, then it's ...

I'm sure someone who knows what they're doing would do a far better job than this, but here's my mixdown + master (2b limiting).

Re: Audio Interface

If you have the money, I would really recommend dropping it on an Apollo 8p. The reason being is that the UAD preamps are firstly extremely clean and neutral. The magic comes from their preamp modelling for Neve and UAD pres. I have a Twin Duo that I recently purchased, and for tracking and monitor...

Re: My music only sounds powerful when I clip the levels.

Everything sounds powerful when you push the levels. Thats the entire reason the loudness wars exist. It is an illusion though, its a short lived audio phenomena and that "power" soon introduces fatigue. That's what I thought, that's the basis of my question really....how do i get it to sound power...

Re: Subsekt challange, operator only track.

Yep, would be great if there was more than one lfo. Forgot about that minor detail but like you say, you can treat another operator as an lfo. I find that subtlety is the main thing more often than not .. When I find myself needing more LFOs, I use the M4L MIDI LFO. Pretty good. I find there's an a...

Re: Subsekt challange, operator only track.

Oh fuck not using reverbs & stuff lol Yeah.. good work on that track too - Some real nice sounds. Did you use different operator set-ups in those patches, for different sounds.. or did you stick to one or 2 routings that you were familiar with? I use whatever routing necessary to get the sound I wa...

Re: Subsekt challange, operator only track.

Well, that was fun. Made this in about an hour. Wasn't sure if I was allowed to use EQing or Compression or whatever, so it's basically just a bunch of instances of operator, no post processing whatsoever. Not great but what can you do, I missed my reverb haha. https://soundcloud.com/dolorum/operato...

Re: Drum Programming / grooves

Two things really helped me in getting my drum programming to "roll" properly. The first, making sure your track delay is set to work properly with whatever sample you're using. So if you have a hi hat, you can make the song groove very differently based on how ahead/behind the grid you place it. I ...

Would highly recommend it, I own a Zoom H5 and it's serving me well, but mainly because I'm the type of person who uses lots of field recordings and foley like sounds in my music.

Re: Vocal fx

Vocal has been pitched down, run through a chorus, maybe a bit of a vocoder, and a reverb with a short tail, high frequency dampening and lots of high rate of depth modulation on the decay of the verb. Also sounds like the vowel sounds close, probably a low pass with a high resonance that moves down...

Re: Your Production/Arrangement Process

Classic ITB producer style. Set up a 16 to 32 bar loop and build percussion/melody in whatever order feels right until I get a groove. Then modulate and see where I could take things to give myself an idea of what to do, then just start from the beginning of the track and try to work my way to the e...

Re: Writing/producing positive, happy, fun techno?

Here's a track that straddles the line between uplifting and melancholic, which I think is a great vibe:

This one as well, but it's just full on happiness and executed well, not very techno though. I think the trick is not to make it annoyingly cheesy:
