Re: What's on the walls in your studio / music space?
We painted the whole studio black, exept the floor. There is 4 big, white, vpr panels on the walls and a big white cloud above the mix space. I like it, but i wont paint the next studio black, maybe grey. Spending to long time in a black room wears me out!

Re: Videos of people making tracks
Ive been thinking the same thing, found some videos from someone called "finger in the noise" or similar a while ago and got some ideas and inspiration. I also expand my ideas when talking and experimenting with friends who also produce.

Re: Mono under 80hz
I always make my kick and bass mono and usually other elements sit at more "safe" frequencys above. After this im starting to question why i do that, and that it may contribute to my mixes sounding incredibly boring with regards to stereo imaging. Whats you thoughts on this? Do you have some spread ...

Re: Adding top end to sounds
The simple method is not to add top end, just take away everything else then turn up the gain. Tube saturation can also help by adding upper harmonics. Think subtractively first. See if you can get what you need with what you have before you go piling on the layers. Ive had this in mind the last tw...

Adding top end to sounds
I think its pretty common to layer a tom or conga under a sound to add some low end when its lacking, and it works great. But i often find myself lacking top end in my sounds. I do a lot of resampling, and often times i pich my sounds down. I think it usually sounds crap when i try to layer it with ...

Re: EQ in techno
Ive recently discovered how effective more extreme eq is in sounddesign, like a musical tool for bringing out tones and parts that are interesting. However, when you make narrow boosts and make a resonance, you get a very long sustain. I was thinking if i should get a multiband compressor to control...

Re: What sampler is everyone using?
I use ableton sampler aswell.
Anyone care to share some sampler tricks?
I usually assign velocity to time for my hats and similar, and play around with the parameters to find a nice groove. Maybe the oldest trick in the book, but its relatively new to me.

Re: Relatively Cheap VST/AU Reverbs
Everyone seems to love valhalla vintage verb, but i never got along with it. A couple of weeks ago i got the new room/s reverb from plugin alliance, so far i love it and think i found my go to reverb. It was $99 a couple of weeks ago, dont know if thats still the case.

Re: Another mid budget monitor thread
How did this end up as a thread where white men complain about their tough situation? Does it change if I tell you if I happen to know he isn't white? Regardless, that audio interface you use is entry-level. Not really, that wasnt my point.. I know my interface is crap, but what would be a good cho...

Anyways, i will also move a bit off topic and ask those of you with more experience, how important is the audio interface? Im on a focusrite sapphire 6 usb at the moment and im 95% itb.

Re: Another mid budget monitor thread
I have not tested any of the monitors yet, but ive been looking at the spectre s8 and they seem to impress a lot of people. I was just thinking, the dsp menas they have a "computer" inside right? Am i all wrong when i think they mat be more prone to break sometime in the future, and that it might be...

Re: Acoustic Treatment Help ?
My budget was €1500, i've got 4 monster basstraps, 4 224 panels and 2 alpha panels. 2 monster basstraps are on my ceiling, 2 on the back of the wall. The 224 panels are left and right of my listening position and the alpha panels are in the corner for early reflections. Just contact them and see wh...

Re: Some questions on reverb...
My conclusion at the moment is that it gets easier to make an interesting mix the more you know about psychoacoustics and sound.
I think things like frequency, transient, stereo/mono and reverb need/should/could work together to place sounds in the mix, not just the dry/wet of a reverb.

Re: Another mid budget monitor thread
I dont have the exact measures now, but its around 7-8x4m. I will treat it, will probably build two big traps in the corners + some panels on the first reflection points.

Re: Another mid budget monitor thread
Thanks for great help! With voidloss info i think i will take the Adam and eve monitors of the list. That leaves me with genelec 8030 and neumann kh 120. Am i wrong to think i would prefer something that goes all the way down in the subs? I mean the KH 120 will leave me guessing below 54hz, or am i ...

Another mid budget monitor thread
In a few months me and my mrs will move to a new apartment with more space, a better room (about 7x4m) and possibilities for me to make some acoustic treatment. Ive figured this would be a logic point for me to upgrade my krk rokit 6 monitors for something more exciting. Ive been looking at the foll...

Re: Subsekt challange, operator only track.
I made a small loop with about 4 or 5 operators the other night after reading this. Was on headphones. Only listened to it on monitors last night & sounded much much better than I expected. Kick wasn't too bad. Kinda turned into an almost slight gabba, deep & fuzzy thump. Might do something with it...

Subsekt challange, operator only track.
Thought i would do this as an exercise for myself, but it would be fun if anyone else wants to join? The challenge is to build a loop/track or whatever, using only ableton operator. You can use as many instances as you want but no further processing. If you dont have operator, then fm8 or something ...
