Anyone have one? Thoughts? I just got one off e-bay and have been getting into it, really nice synth but i'm not an expert yet.
Re: reverb
Thanks for the Valhalla info, i haven't had that on my list yet. I'll check the demo. Does anyone have experiences with eventide blachole? Looks like it can be a lot of fun. Maybe it's more for tewaking sound than using it as a classic reverb? Blackhole is cool but it's kinda situational. It's a bi...

Re: Fucking claps
EQ, then either distortion on the clap itself or route it through an AUX effect distortion.
Distortion can give alot of harmonies to muffled sounds.

Re: My music only sounds powerful when I clip the levels.
I find that distorting then EQ'ing out the unnecessary frequencies on every individual sound gives good results. Distortion often creates a lot of frequencies across the spectrum but many of them are not necessary on every sound, for example maybe your über-distorted hi-hat doesn't need all that low...

Re: Sonimus TuCo
I can recommend Eventide Omnipressor Looks interesting, but quite expensive. Could you elaborate on why you recommend it and how you use it? It's a very special compressor, it can be veeeery extreme. It's great for sound design, you can really squish the sounds in very interesting ways. Also it jus...

Re: Can't have monitors, am I doomed?
You'll be fine lol. People get down to music that sounds like it came from a potato ran through a microwave, you don't need a studio or monitors or anything to make a track to dance to.

Re: Is Soundcloud still the 'go to' music hosting site?
You have to network to get plays. You can't just upload your shit and expect the whole world to find it and love it. Soundcloud is really good if you keep at it, like lots of things, comment on music you like, try to connect with people who make similar music and message people, repost tracks et cet...

Re: Layering drums
When layering it's often good to EQ out alot of frequencies from each drum in the layer. Think like "this sound has a good high end, so I'll EQ out alot of the lows of it then match it with the low end of this drum because it has good low end" Alot of new Angolan/Portuguese club music layers alot of...

Re: Drum Programming / grooves
Having a MIDI keyboard with touch sensitive keys really helps with groove, it easily sounds stiff if all the drums are exactly the same volume on every hit. Stay off the grid, don't quantize the notes 100%. Ableton has a really nice quantize function where you can quantize the MIDI to a set percenta...

Re: Standard Clichés
Hmmm wonder what will be left in a track if I avoid all of these clichés ... Seriously though, this is a good thread to come back to when I'm struggling to do something creative and/or wondering why my tracks don't sound very original. But what would everyone think if a track was completely origina...
