Re: Studio setup - few questions

That's a good point actually A.M.Smith, can just record in mono and, if need be, double it up inside Renoise to create a stereo recording... Will have another look at daisy chaining soundcards! And another thought, don't currently have a drum machine, so could just get an 8 input interface with the ...

Re: Studio setup - few questions

Thanks for the quick reply! Ever come across such an audio interface, with 16 line ins?

Was looking at RME (dreaming, ha!), and with the old RME Fireface 800 you could daisy chain them together, so that would be ideal...

Re: Studio setup - few questions

@Voidloss - What if I was to use a jack to XLR cable? Would it cause a lot of noise and other nastiness?

Re: Studio setup - few questions

I'm starting to doubt the usefulness of these USB / Firewire mixers, they all seem to have made compromises on functionality in order to either make it cheaper to produce or as a result of poor design; either way they seem quite limited. Alas, I have found another solution... So, I've realised that ...

Re: Studio setup - few questions

The Behringer doesn't sound too bad, I've tried far, far worse mixers! That's not to say it's good, but it does the trick for now. ;) Regarding the Soundcraft MTK, looks great! Only thing I don't get is that it's USB 2.0, so if the MTK is £600 and the Mackie Onyx 1620i is ~£450, surely I'd be better...

Re: Studio setup - few questions

As an aside, what are your thoughts on using a Mackie Onyx 1620i, for example, such that each of my channels and AUX sends can be routed to the computer and recorded separately, whilst also being able to send two channel from my DAW to the mixer. I assume that would solve most of my problems right? ...

Re: Studio setup - few questions

Thanks for your responses guys! Could you both go in to a little more detail? Like I said above, I'm not married to my set-up plan, so am entirely open to other ideas. Who knows, I might end up doing a hybrid of my own idea, and yous two's set-ups.

Re: layering kicks / tuning percussion

Just had a thought actually, in regards to pitching kicks. Once you've got your kicks pitched, you can include out-of-key kicks to offset the beat. It can create a nice effect when used tastefully. Think of it in terms of a jazz tune; a lot of the time it's the out-of-key parts of a melody which cau...

Re: layering kicks / tuning percussion

I typically do it the other way round! So I'll always start with making a beat, typically kick first. I usually always layer two kicks for the main kick and find a sweet spot where it sounds fattest - this might be B#4 or even sometimes as low as F3 (start note being C4) - and have a separate kick w...

Re: Studio setup - few questions

I think you're right in saying that I want it to do much with it, so let's focus on the studio / production set-up for now and ignore the live set-up. That can come (much) later! Guitar / bass I don't use that often for producing, so we can exclude those. Have other means of recording those than thr...

Re: Studio setup - few questions

Let me know if the plan doesn't make any sense to you, I've spent quite a lot of time staring at it, editing it, so if it makes no sense to anyone else that would be entirely understandable!

Studio setup - few questions

Hello all! Now, I'm in the midst of planning and setting up my home studio. I have most of the kit already, and the plan is there. I know what I want to be able to but am somewhat struggling with making sure it all works together. For clarity, I am confident in my ITB set-up, that doesn't really nee...

Re: Elektron Monomachine SFX60 MK1 vs MFB Tanzbar

Supposedly the MK2 has slightly better signal : noise, and MK2 allows you to load your own waveforms. That's pretty much it! @UN!T B: thanks! @Lost to the Void: I think I pretty much answered my own question didn't I? It'll be my first bit of hardware, so reckon the Monomachine is probably the way t...

Elektron Monomachine SFX60 MK1 vs MFB Tanzbar

Hello! This is my first post here, so greetings fellow techno heads. I have been producing with Renoise for the entirety of my production career, and am now looking to take inspiration from physically pushing buttons and twiddling knobs, rather than staring at a computer screen. I'm not looking to c...
