Re: Do you have any long-term musical goals (even abstract, pompous or hilarious ones)?

Actually want to do what Voidloss is always mentioning, to really innovate in techno genre. For me this required focusing on mainly drums and production quality for nearly 10 years, to get them to a point where I could do a deep dive into synths and have a strong foundation for focusing on that kind...

Re: Generic Airwindows plugin thread / tips, recommendations etc

Try using the channel, on every channel. It is similar to what a lot of guys here say about Harrison mixbus. Subtle but seems to open up the mix a little while also gluing it together. Harrison mixbus is garbage, it has been objectively proven to be just generic digital, with zero mojo being inject...

Re: Boomers yellling at clouds ie what's the number one thing you hate the most about modern techno?

This is something I’ve thought a lot about recently, maybe it’s the result of changes in production techniques over the decades. Techno goes all the way back to the days when a really solid setup was an Atari that could coordinate all your MIDI hardware’s sequences, maybe riding the analog mixer and...

You can also enjoy Goldie and some of the UK MCs of this period being interviewed high as a kite after this Toronto party back in ‘94!

Re: How to set up a life that's doable, in a world like this

I will say one thing though, to follow up on my last comment, I went to London a few weeks ago for an audio dev conference and went out to a proper techno night and it was refreshing compared to what the scene is like in North America right now. Glad to see people having a normal night out and not d...

Re: How to set up a life that's doable, in a world like this

Yeah that is so true. My issue lately is how much real culture has caved in over the past two decades, which IMO was a direct result of the fear campaigns of the 2000s (propaganda engines reached all new levels and the mainstream seemed to just eat it all up and regurgitate, preparing for what was t...

Re: Immerse Virtual Studio - mix confidently on headphones

Hey Voidloss, there is a free 2-week trial available here:

https://embody.co/pages/ivs-allaccess-download

All Access build supports the most headphones so it's probably your best bet. Some users have bypassed the headphone EQ and put Sonarworks after it in the monitoring chain with good results!

Re: Subsekt 10th Anniversary Vinyl.

I'm also interested in helping out with this project. There aren't many places that maintained real online community during Big Tech's takeover of the internet in the 2010s, but Subsekt is one of them. For that alone I really want to help out. Please add me to the label forum Voidloss!

Immerse Virtual Studio - mix confidently on headphones

Hey all I wanted to share a Sound on Sound review of the plug-in I've spent the past few years helping to write for my company Embody. https://www.soundonsound.com/ You can read the review if you register for a free account on the SOS website and open the replica edition of the May magazine to pages...

Re: Sound on Sound give free access

Cheers, timing is great I think the May issue contains a review of a plug-in I helped develop, let's see if I can find which page it's on... EDIT: Found it! On pages 72-73. The plug-in is called Embody: Immerse Virtual Studio. Gonna spin off my perspective on the plug-ins' usability to a new thread,...

Re: How to not get bored of your own bars/patterns?

yeah Stace is right, I think the trick for me is to pry myself away from using a DAW for the wrong things. having hands-on control either via really really good controller mapping or hardware helps compared to mouse+keyboard editing, DAWs like Ableton make it too easy to make the "captain obvious" s...

first go at a DnB tune

Curious what other subsekters think...! By my teens in the late 90s there was a pretty massive DnB scene in the region I grew up in (near Toronto Canada) and although I was already focused on techno back then, I quite enjoyed my fair share of DnB from that era.. We were hugely influenced by the UK D...

Nice, you did a video for Prophan? I got a great remix from him last year ;-) I’m curious what software etc are you using to make your clips. I am probably starting to make some music videos this year too, and ambient visuals for a podcast I’m starting up (like Dommune but with ambient visuals and l...

Re: DJ EQ VST?

Cool what’s your programming background? Any experience coding plugins, say with C++ and JUCE? I think front end will be a piece of cake so I’m gonna read up on the best digital algorithms to get that nice sounding filter for the EQ bands. If we have fixed Q and fixed freq bands it shouldn’t be too ...

I like how subsekt rules pretty much enforce the old internet ways as they were around 2005 and prior, people have a hard time slowing themselves down what with the information bombardment of modern social media but it’s worth it in the end....

Re: How to glue a reverb send with your main mix?

One sure-fire way is to mixdown on hardware and send to either hardware fx or a 0-latency plugin host machine, like a dedicated machine on Thunderbolt interface that just hosts plugins and receives automation from the main DAW when needed.

Re: DJ EQ VST?

Dang only 99 рублей for 1 день what a steal Seriously though, I’ve found myself needing them same thing in Ableton, I want 4 knob A&H style with two mids to wire to my Livid Ohm for performance. If the 10.1 channel EQ isn’t up to the task I’m down to join forces programming a nice plugin that does t...

Yeah I mean there’s two groups, the people who know what something’s worth and those who don’t. Definitely want to pick up from the latter. I got a Mackie CR1604 that was sitting in storage unused for a decade+ and a bunch of classic electronic CDs off someone who was just unloading stuff, didn’t se...

Endless quests are my middle name ;-) But yeah, it’s totally possible to have both problems at the same time.
