Re: Melodic type techno that isn’t cheesy?

Traum Schallplatten always borders on minimal and tech.. Dig on some ryan davis. Dominik eulberg generally pretty great. Also Aril Brikha.

Re: Rise of Youtube tutorials and masterclasses..

there's some good advice, but i think overall there's no way that any of these videos are showing how to impart personality or telling the viewer the importance of creating something original. And i see a lot of things that the videos just don't get. I'd hate to say i know more but if the presenter ...

Re: [Production] Share One Idea From Today.

was yesterday.. but i had been doing this sort of thing for awhile with outboard gear. I tap in on the machine the sequence and the drum machine sends the midi to the daw in a midi recording and i arrange the midi in the daw with automation and then use the drum machine as a sound module. that way i...

Re: Should I get rid of my vintage gear?

feeling like putting some decksavers on the 707 and the 606 and stowing them away might be the way to go. I love the DX stuff but it's gnna need to be repaired, a lot of the buttons don't work. seems like a plague on the DX gear. i do have a digitone that fits the purpose but the sound of the DX7iid...

Re: Sean Ocean - pt 51 MEV

hanks i'm thinking it might not fit in well in a current techno set. and i'm not sure what to do about it. i've been doing a lot of multitracking, maybe i ill work on shorter loops with longer evolutions.. that seems to be the thing.

Re: Should I get rid of my vintage gear?

i was thinkin of having a acid electro pseudonym but even a lot of electro doesn't use the vintage stuff anymore. Maybe ill try sampling and pitching. maybe use a pitch shifter to make the gear sound a bit more tough and less stock. if it's still a pain in the ass and just collecting dust i'll proba...

Should I get rid of my vintage gear?

this is troublesome post.. since i have personal attachment to the gear i have. but i have, 606 707 juno 106 sh101 dx11 dx7iid alpha juno and for the most part I do not use them because they take a lot of work to get them sounding dope. i mean the 1o6 is great after i got it basically rebuilt, but t...

Sean Ocean - pt 51 MEV

This is a track i've come up with after working on it for several months in 2020. Big elements in play, Machine Drum, TR8 through a Sherman Filterbank, some analog four, outboard compression, etc. This was released as my first solo EP in january on a local label, but it doesn't have as much traction...

Re: Techno Music Production Videos (Please post YT links etc.. )

Also check out the Red Means Recording instructional series. The Digitone and the "so you want to make a sound" vid has really helped open up my head on FM/ subtractive synthesis and Jeremy gives a lot of reasons why things work in a simple, clear, well performed and often times witty approach to sy...

Rise of Youtube tutorials and masterclasses..

I said i was just gonna lurk but i actually have this on my mind. this is something that has a taste of politics, originality, and techno cultural significance.. In the past, or with everyone i've encountered with the subject that nobody really tried to tip their hand when it comes to their secret s...

Re: Arturia kickbrute / Drumbrute

Cannot save any kits. total pain. you'd have to get midi to trigger your cc messages to the pots (if it has any) to remember where you had started. if you bumped it and can't remember what value you had your drums sounds at, it would take time to get it back. Jomox x base 09 selling used would be a ...

Re: ---- Elektron User Topic -----

using a4 and octatrack here. best advice i ever got was "RTFM, no really." going step by step through the tutorials in the back of the octatrack manual was definitely needed. but my experience is that if you've banged on a machine drum and you've banged on an MPC, you're going to notice a hybrid of ...

Re: Standard Clichés

One more.. I think that when things are excessively dark for no reason that's kind of a turn off. I've heard techno in major and it's pretty ok.

Also dirge techno that's just borderline powernoise. >:| that to me just sounds uncreative and bores the hell out of me.

Re: Gettin' old

Fuck no. It's in my veins, and I could never give that shit up. I'll stop at the age when Kraftwerk stops or if i go completely deaf. Kraftwerk, believe it or not was a big inspiration for me to start getting into making music after 15 years of DJing and never picking up a synth. I thought to mysel...

Standard Clichés

Sorry i been off board for a while. -been doing other stuff. I've been thinking about techno clichés recently. I think if you examine and identify cliches and find workarounds from dismissing them, your music can be a bit more creative. For example, you all know the old ride cymbal that was ubiquito...
