Re: Marcel Dettmann interview
I don't know why this guy gets so much flack. Trust me, if he wasn't involved in berghain he'd be bubblin under the surface anyway. I respect how the man does his thing in his own way and doesn't do the commercial techno thing. You only have to look at Whoretits? or Sellout to see what happens when ...

Re: Controlling layered distortion in tracks
i have been trying out some of the recommendations and been getting results that I'm happier with using an eq before and after the distortion plugs. This is what I was missing. Thanks to everyone who took the time to leave advice in here.

Re: Music Books
Papen's book is good. Though it had nothing in it that I didn't already know, it helps you put things into context. Always useful that is. I think they ran some of them Computer Music specials before, so these issues must be updated or expanded. Should be able to order them direct of their magazine ...

Re: Controlling layered distortion in tracks
Thanks for the replies. Its good to thrash it all out here because its dawning on me that its more often grit or texture that I hear than full all out distortion. It doesn't need to be drenched for your ear to perceive it to be distorted. AnD are definitely not afraid of messing it up or controlling...

Re: "Black Friday" sales summary
Very tempted to buy something. Its hard not to but I'm more than happy with Ableton's stock plugins for the moment. I'm sure some company will manage to squeeze some cash from me at Christmas when the next plague of marketing is unleashed

Controlling layered distortion in tracks
Hello, This subject has been talked about before, but I'd like to get some advice on how best to tackle adding grit to my music with distortion without totally fucking it up. I have a couple of examples below as a guide to what I'm trying to achieve. I find it difficult to add the top bit of distort...

Re: Levon Vincent's "Bootcamp"
Nice idea. He's simply doing what record companies and talent scout manager people regularly do and thats developing new artists. He appears to be doing it more lo-fi than them, so good on Levon.

The Ram Trilogy EPS were top too. Will have a rummage when I get home.
Re: Toms
Toms are a thorn in my side. I like the sound of them, but rarely enjoy using them. My tip would be that if you have a nice pattern, strip it back to find the sweet spot. Swap the toms for a basic saw or square with the same pattern then sculpt. Quite similar to audiocats advice, but with some tweak...

Re: Bussing / Mix advice
A buss is essentially a channel that you send the outputs of other channels to before they get to the master. You possibly use an effects buss with a reverb? Thats an effects buss with an amount sent via the send controls. The other type of buss is where you route the main output of the channel to t...

Re: Drum & Bass Thread
Ram Trilogy was big man. Those records were a real soundtrack for me. Its a crying shame to see them go so commercial these days with Chase & Status and Wilkinson, but hey-ho, whatever pays the bills.
