Re: I just don't think I am built to make Techno.

I think it's kind of like any relationship. If you love that person or thing, you'll stick with it. It might have its ups and downs but you just keep with it... because you love it. Eventually the relationship takes off and reciprocates and it makes you feel good. Everybody has bad days and good day...

Re: How to decide how much reverb?

Are we talking about reverb that's WIDE stereo-wise? It will probably sound a bit too much on headphones, but lacking on monitors. Maybe try adjusting the stereo wideness all the way down to mono and then bring it back up slowly while listening on headphones. I usually find that reverb is too wide s...

Another option might be Open Broadcaster Software, https://obsproject.com/

It's free.

Re: Alume - Hulat

I like the quality of the sounds you've chosen and the rolling quality of the track overall. Maybe it's just me but, for whatever reason, I find myself rocking to a rhythm in the bassline which doesn't seem to go with the rest of the track... seemingly off-time from what the rest of the other percus...

Re: karwa in the jungle part II

I think the kick doesn't really match the track, the kick lacks power compared to the rest of the percussion and samples. A kick with a longer tail or with some low sub frequencies could be cool. The other percussion and samples (not the bassline or synth) could be quieter, with the amount of compre...

Re: Abstract Thoughts

I like the ethereal vibe the track has, for lack of a better word, but I feel like the vocal samples are out of place; Might be cool to push them back in the mix more by running them through reverb. The chords get so loud at certain points that I hear audible distortion which doesn't really add to t...

Re: Obtuso - Snowpiercer

Maybe the bassline and the percs could benefit from a simple distortion plugin as they sound a bit quiet to me, especially the bassline, but perhaps that was the vibe you were going for. It sounds like there's more than one sound going through reverb. Because the reverb tail is so long, there's one ...

Re: dark ambient live recording

Alex, I sent you a PM with a link. I'm not sure how to make private links on the forums yet. I'm not an expert on mastering so this was a fun learning experience for me although it took me awhile to figure things out. 9 instances of Nova67P, 4 instances of EngineersFilter, 1 instance of DestinyMKIII...

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you. I can export and provide a dropbox link, unless you have a better idea.

I agree with Mattias, the attack could be set to something slower. I'll see what I can do about that.

Re: Obtuso - Untitled 12 and 13

I like where you're going with these tracks. On 12, I think the synths could sit better in the mix; The alarm synth at the beginning could be quieter by at least a few dB, maybe more, and the high frequencies on it from 1 KHz and up could be pulled down maybe 6 to 12 dB with EQ. Maybe some more comp...

Re: Not exactly techno though

Nice experiment and cool sounds. I think most of the synth instruments are a bit too loud; Especially that high-pitched arp at the beginning, it could come down maybe 6 to 12 dB. Roll off the high frequencies on the breaks a bit, 1 KHz and up, with EQ. Cut off the low-end at 40 Hz and down.

Re: Cryptic

I think mastering-wise you're fine. But something about the mixing or arrangement of the track grabs my attention the most. Bassline and main synth, I think, and the timing of the notes. I like the idea of using swing and different timing but for me it doesn't sound right in this track. I'm not quit...

Re: dark ambient live recording

I tried running your live mix through Vladg's Nova-67P using the "Multiband Hell" preset as a starting point. Some tweaks to the preset; Attack 1 ms and release 10 ms, master gain 0 dB, high overall compression ratio (10:1) with sidechain off and compression threshold set to zero. EQ the mids (380 H...

Didn't know it was called Drone Techno. I've been attempting similar things in some tracks I'm working on recently. If there are any rules in Techno, break them. Do what you think sounds good. Sounds like you've got a synth line in that track and it sounds really great to me! I think you nailed it. :D

Re: James Aven (feedback on mixdown please)

Cool track! Sounds good in mono. In stereo, that resonating rhythmic sound is a bit louder. Maybe if you threw on a compressor to just process the side signal in mid-side mode it would help keep the peaks down which would also fix some of the phasing during the breakdowns; It would still sound wide ...

Perhaps the challenge could be done in two stages? One that starts of with Steve's stems as the warm up and a second one that have stems provided by someone who isn't a pro. Could be very interesting. I'm really excited about this challenge. The two-stage idea is great too. If nobody else who isn't...

Re: Made in precisely 40 minutes techno track

The only thing that really stood out to me is that airy pad at the beginning which has almost no mono compatibility.

Really nice track, though! The distortion doesn't kill it for me. I like.
