Re: Boomers yellling at clouds ie what's the number one thing you hate the most about modern techno?
Please share some clever dnb you have heard recently, interested to hear what you've found. The Pøl stuff on this Schimmer release is cool. https://schimmerstuttgart.bandcamp.com/album/lqd016 I wish I could help you there mate, but although I've heard lots of good d&b the last few years, I don't re...

Re: Boomers yellling at clouds ie what's the number one thing you hate the most about modern techno?
I kinda wonder when techno became such a "produced" genre? I love well produced music, don't get me wrong. I just mean that in the 90's techno was fairly rough, at least the kind of techno I remember. House, trance and drum&bass were often much more refined in production. Lots of techno nowadays sou...

Re: Plug-in alternatives/workarounds (Mac ballache)
Every daw must have a stock EQ with mid side functionality I imagine. Just low cut the side. Ableton has 'Utility' with a bass mono button. Seems a waste for something so simple to have to have some specific 3rd party plugin to do it. Indeed. Then again, something like the VUMT Deluxe has lots of s...

Re: Boomers yellling at clouds ie what's the number one thing you hate the most about modern techno?
Yeah I did say that I like the SDB track as well. It just has IMO the potential for so much more. It has nice elements surely. Many of these kinda tracks today lack even the elements, consisting 3 minutes of mostly a kickdrum, then a long breakdown with some crappy "emotional" chords, then 2 minutes...

I have VUMT Deluxe, very handy plugin! I always have it on every channel, right after the sound source.

Boomers yellling at clouds ie what's the number one thing you hate the most about modern techno?
My number one pet peeve is more or less the super annoying "the main musical motif only appearing during the breakdown"-arrangement, which is very common nowadays. Many modern techno things can be seen as purely subjective and taste-based, but imo that one simply always and quite objectively makes t...

Anyone here using the native UAD Spark package or other UAD plugins?
I downloaded the 2 week trial a few days ago, installed most of the plugins in the pack and I have to say, initial reaction is extremely positive! Basically everything sounds a bit or even a lot better than what I had before for the job. They are very old school in the sense that they mostly haven't...

Re: AI and music
Didn't read the thread yet and I've written about 10 pages worth of stuff about AI the last few days and I'm tired, so I'll just TLDR it now: AI might be a real threat to some professional music services (things like ghost producers for techno DJ's will probably simply cease to exist) and it will ge...

Re: Where's the New Gear thread ?
You are right, there is probably not much to gain soundwise and there is also nothing you can't do with ableton. But I'm considering this for a few years now and it might be interesting to switch things up and learn something new. Why I consider the 1000 is the size, it should be fine to use it on ...

There's Discord and Telegram groups, too. Good call actually, kinda forgot about Discord despite using it daily for non-music related stuff. Are there any particularly good Discord channels for electronic music production talk or alternatively, DJ talk that somehow hasn't turned into a giant spamfe...

Re: Where's the New Gear thread ?
I'm again/still thinking of getting an MPC1000 - just to make things annoying I guess Just out of interest, why that MPC specifically? I can imagine one getting an MPC60 for a good reason and perhaps an MPC3000 as well. And I can imagine reasons for getting one of the more modern options. But what ...

The Elektron forum is busy. Obviously with a heavy Elektron machine slant but there’s probably just as much general chat about production and other equipment. They seem a nice bunch. I have an account there actually, having owned various Elektron units in the past. Haven't checked it in a few years...

Another one: What do all pass filters actually do to audio? They seem to change it somehow, I just don't understand what's going on. Can they be used for something useful? Can they do harm in some way? The only thing I ever use them for is occasionally for kicks. A random guy online (ie. a very reli...

Reddit? Shit, the layout and the user interface are just horrible. It hurts my brain every time I open the site for 10 seconds.

Gearspace's electronic music forum is the only active one nowadays but it's mostly older folk who hate all post 90''s music and no one really talks about music making and production there, just about what synths they own or want to buy. Every other place is pretty quiet. Facebook groups are slowly f...

Re: ASK US ANYTHING [NO SUBJECT IS STUPID / ALL QUESTIONS WELCOMED]
What does pan law do precisely and more importantly, do normal people ever have any need to touch the default setting of the DAW? And what happens when you do change it and do certain settings give you some advantages or disadvantages the others don't? Explain it to me like I was an idiot. I have ch...

I probably should limit the amount of time I sit on the computer all day every day. These things can be lethal.

Re: Attenuator - Resistive Circuits
Nice, minimal and hypnotic. Not really something I would play on my own DJ sets but I can imagine it working in a club setting, either really early in the evening or really late in the morning.
