Stillwell CMX does this to a very fine degree, you can also micro pitch shift one channel to get a more 3d effect.

Super super simple, you just need a harmoniser or several copies of the vocal at different pitches. That`s literally all it is. I`ve been doing this to vocals for years. To be fair to Mr. JunkieXL, it might not have been his call. Sometimes the person doing the score supplies the music, but doesn't necessarily have creative control over how it's used - it could be down to the director.
