Re: Headphone thread V2: Closed back edition

Anyone ever tried the AKG K612 Pro?
Seems like the K371 / K271 mentioned here are closed back equivalents to the K612?

K612 would be my first open back.
As I understand it, open backs can deliver more realistic sound.
Compensating a bit of detail that you would get with closed back or IEM, correct?

Re: Favourite techno DJ?

Slam for introducing a lot of Detroit and underground techno to me in the 90's. I still tune in even these days but direction is questionable at times. Dave Clarke, when he's on form is outstanding though does has his off days. Mentioned already here quite a bit, understandably so. Staying true the...

Its very refreshing and we can all do with a bit of refreshment these days.

Re: State of "techno"

https://twitter.com/businessteshno/status/1307998006705156098 Jeez. Apart from the obvious Corona fuckup, the music in these videos is just ear bleedingly bad. HAHAHA Why even bother with the cotton mask? To avoid arrest I bet. The music is disappointing but then again, can't expect everyone to be ...

Very insightful, thanks.

Better hope those labels master professionally.
No need for paranoia.

Mastering issue I expect.
Mastering can be a culprit behind some issues encountered with DJ software?
This is can be a very serious problem.

Could you help elaborate how that could be?

So eventide are giving away a new type of synth with a innovative new type of oscillator that generates new textures.

Re: Using Utility to turn down the master when clipping.

I too have always worked with low volume on the channels to make life easier by headroom. To be able to then turn up channel volume one by one when mixing. To be able to work with volume upwards instead of downwards. Would be difficult to achieve this with -Db via utility on master. But who knows ac...

I'm confused. Never heard of these, artist or label, and 400k views in a month? In the words of John Lennon "Most peculiar, mama" .. HAHA - dinosaur! Its a brave new world out there and this is their techno. Gotta love all that singing, hands up in the air at the festival singing along feeling "the...

Re: How to not get bored of your own bars/patterns?

If I understand your post correctly, its about how a long track progressively develops without falling into the perils of tecnho repetition. There are a lot of good examples of this in techno - that is creating an engaging track throughout a duration. Largely I believe it refers to Crioch's input wh...

Re: Stop fussing and get shit done.

It also comes from impatience, people not wanting to build the skills but find a magic button solution, and also laziness, and partly just a lack of knowledge/understanding. I'm currently going through my first proper dry spell after picking up production 4-5 years ago, and I've hardly made a sound...

Well, grant you it didn't take much convincing, but this had me reading through a complete MGS timeline this morning and I'm very intrigued now! Seems I can get MGS4 on PS4 cheaply so thats nice, not sure how the graphics or gameplay hold up but I'll def give it a try. #5 should be way better on th...

Re: Favourite stories

One story that really stood out for me was the Metal Gear Solid story, especially from game #1 & 2. I never really played it after #3 so not sure how it all progressed, but the 2 first ones were very captivating even though a lot of the debt of the plot was probably lost on me as a young teen. It's...

Re: Voidloss Studio Sessions

I just wanna pop in to say that I really enjoyed the creation of that low end rumble using a short sample instead of relying on a kick's reverb or a bass artefact. Very2 cool and mind-opening to extract any sound one sees fit so long as it comes together nicely. To not be constrained by certain perc...

Re: Roland , Korg & Online Stores Fined For Price-Fixing

the CMA granted Yamaha immunity from any fines for bringing the case to the regulator’s attention. F'kin snitch! If I was GAK I would be pretty pissed at Yamaha right now. Mind, I'll be looking elsewhere than GAK for future purchases too. Not really. Those guys knew what they were doing. Collusion ...

Re: Subsekt's favourite sample libraries....

I've never procured a sample pack because stock for me is always more than enough. I used to go to freesound.org for sounds I needed that stock wouldn't have. I thought I could scale up with a bit more quality recordings though. I use them for nuances and fills. So I'm really not looking for any loo...

Gifts with Purchase

Gifts with Purchase - aka GWP. Years ago I used to be in Marketing and the concept of GWP was always seen as a fringe. The market has a tendency to perceive it inferior to the outright pricing advantage of a discount. But I think for specific markets under the right conditions for the right manufact...
