I'd get a used Machine mk1 and use its plugin to drive Drum Racks in any DAW. The setup takes a moment and it requires v2 of the Machine software. But once done, you've got instant access to anything you throw into your racks. Hands on!

I guess it's the lovely result of "not giving a fuck": overcompressing everything to oblivion, not caring about stereo seperation, a middlefinger to "good" practices. You wanna get there, apply four times as much compression as you usually would. Don't use sends for delays/reverbs, pan things a bit ...

The Drama is in the notes. I'd potentially grab some PCM type workstation, like the Korg M1 and use one of it's String presets. Then dial in the Attack envelope, until it's more stabby.
