Re: Benefits of Using a Hardware Drum Machine?
Thanks for all the responses everybody, I really appreciate it. I think after reading through these, it's not so much the drum machine I need, just the ability to smash out stuff with a bit more ease. Think I'll give the push a go (although I desperately need to finally learn Ableton and rid myself ...

Benefits of Using a Hardware Drum Machine?
Hi all, I've recently had a go on a Arturia Drumbrute and a Roland TR-08 at a music exhibition at the weekend. I really enjoyed the more 'hands-on' approach to playing drums and I thought the Drumbrute seemed really good at being able to kind of 'plug in and play' and just kinda jam out ideas, play ...

Re: Bound - Reflective Desire
Solid groove here, building momentum with those percussive sounds very effectively. The low end of the kick seems to get lost a little in the heavy bass though. That ripping synth sound every 2nd beat sounds just a bit muffled throughout the track, especially compared to how it sounds in the outro....

Re: Runnin' against the bell
I dig this a lot, I get the kinda sound you're going for, I'd maybe consider layering the bell synth with a more typical sounding FM kinda bell and maybe have a load of pingpong delay to automate throughout the whole thing to really get the hypnotic kinda vibe I think you talk about?

Re: DAC
Very bashy, I think you could work some looser sounding, clangy Blawan/Ansome/KSP kinda percs in though and just go all out

I like Waiting Games the most. I think you'd maybe be best off finding parts of what you like from all of them and applying what you know now with production to make something new, I guarantee you'd prefer whatever the result of that is to just remixing an old forgotten project

Bound - Reflective Desire
Hi Subsekt heads, A few months ago I posted something and got some great feedback from yourselves. I thought I'd upload something else on Soundcloud and once again I'm absolutely all ears to any and all feedback no matter how scathing and critical. I've started experimenting with FM synthesis, which...

Re: Bound - South Circular
Really liked the main synth riff, how was it made ? I felt the part with this longish subby kick solo'd at 3 minutes was kinda weird, maybe it would sound better on a PA than on my ShureSE215's, still not sure about it though. Liked the track overall but it lacks that little something that would ma...

Really nice mix etc, feels a bit more like a DJ tool than anything else but it definitely works.

Re: Suppressor - 3 Faces
I think the kick definitely needs to cut through more and maybe even be layered a bit more to make it more exciting. The reese sounds a bit dry to me, I'd turn the wet right up with the reverb.

I really love this. Track sounds brilliant, no other points to make apart from what's already been said. Lemme know if you end up releasing this.

Re: Bound - South Circular
I would say, there's still some identity and character waiting to be found in your music and/or production and being part of a place like Subsekt will help you develop that and find your "voice" so to speak. Without sounding like a wanker straight off the bat, this track is a 'too polite' in too ma...

Re: Planar - All that remained
I like this, I think the snares a little dry, could maybe add more verb or a spring verb for some 'dubby' points haha.
I also think you could do with some more clicky hi hats with a bit more brightness to them.

Re: Bound - South Circular
If you want my totally honest opinion, the EP on your soundcloud is pretty well produced but a bit generic. I think with how many promos DJs get you need some stuff that either stands out or just has crazy good production. But then again, generic seems to be what a lot of people seem to like. A1 is...

Re: Patrick Hughes - Thirteen
I love this. The plucky synth is brilliant and the low end grooves so nicely.
The hats are maybe a little dry and I agree the ride is a little loud but it still sounds great.
I think the high end is maybe a little loud on the plucky sound and you could afford to even bring up the lows.

Can you explain this a bit further? Sounds very interestingCríoch wrote:I've been adjusting reverb settings with the bpm calculator recently. Doesnt always have thd effect i wamt.. adjusting by ear is still required. However it definitely makes you consider what you are applying reverb to & why.

Re: Measuring progress
If you listen to something you made a year ago and something you made today, I'm sure you'll notice a difference. Progress is so incremental that you'll barely even notice it happening but if you then take a moment to look back, you'll notice you're quicker at doing something or you can hear and und...
