Preparing An Ableton Live Set

Looking to put together a typical Session View/Launchpad set and have a few questions. When exporting clips for triggering, do you adjust everything so the track is peaking at 0 or still export everything to -6db and put gain or a compressor on the master? Speaking of masters, is there anything that...

Re: AI and music

No, they're more invested in the experience. They're invested in the faces in the band because they find them attractive. They're invested in the personalities because they see themselves in them in some way. They're invested in the clothes because it fits their taste in fashion. They're invested i...

Re: AI and music

Pop music IS Algorithmic to an extent. There IS a formula and it hasn`t really been about the music for quite some time. It`s about the presentation and saturation, more than anything. Pop music, in general, tends to stick to a limited variety of keys, chord progressions and bpms. Hell the lyrics n...

Re: AI and music

Not sure you understood there, I was talking about a Strawman Argument. I didn't mention House or Techno. Probably not :) But your line about people not being into music i.e. fans of boy bands would like AI songs because they're not into music as much. Guess my two points were, 4,000 screaming fans...

Re: AI and music

the same type of people who used to enjoy boyzone or spice girls will be enjoying the AI that replaces Max Martin. Say You'll Be There and especially Who Do You Think You Are shits all over a high % of most house and techno records. Also, someone having a moment in a shit provincial nightclub isn't...

Re: Since forums have mostly dried up and FB has lost lots of it's popularity, where do people discuss production nowada

there was a forum called DJhistory.com. DJ History is back online with a lot of original posters. Not much in the way of music production yet. And while it's never been a conscious decision I guess YouTube tutorials have taken over for me. Though I still check into The Hole and The Bench regularly ...

Re: U-He offer

Diva sounds excellent. Probably the best VST that's nearest to analogue hardware. Can be CPU intensive but nothing that can't be solved by bouncing down tracks as you go.

I've always fancied Hive2 but never got around to pulling the plug.

Soundtoys have a sale on at the moment and would highly recommend getting Decapitator for $49 or Effect Rack if you can stretch to it.

Re: Getting down to music production

Had a month off in the summer touring the UK. Some of it a holiday, some of it sorting out family shit. Then straight into a 3-month contract. Been unemployed for a while so was very welcome but the job sucks or rather the owners are frustrating to work for. So not touched my DAW in 4-5 months. A fe...

Re: COVID theories

Anyone that believes in conspiracy theories has never worked in project management. Fuck, I doubt they've even put on a trade show booth or tried to get a new kitchen fitted. It's bloody impossible to align 8 people and get them to show up on time and follow instructions let alone the governments of...

Re: Artists names, or, a case of accidentally copying someone else's alias

There are numerous examples (mostly in more pop/commercial music realms) whereby an act on the rise or even well established has had to confront this, frequently ending up in an out-of-court settlement, or sometimes a name change. The most famous being The Chemical Brothers who originally called th...

If you're happy then keep going. If it ever gets to the stage that it's an issue then change it then and you're fanbase will follow suit e.g. Plasticman and Plastician.

New Elektron Machine - Syntakt

New machine from Elektron called the Syntakt. Primarily a drum machine with 8 digital tracks and 4 analogue ones but has melodic machines for bass, leads and melody too. As with everything Elektron it looks great but it's probably not enough if you own some of their equipment already.
