Distortion plugins?

Post by Martin »

Hi!

Do you have any tips for nice distortion/saturation plugins to use for sounddesign? Im a bit bored with the ones i use and would like some new colors.

Also, i would like to hear if you have some techniques or tricks for distortion?

Current favourites are as follows:
cassette
Contemporary Colour
Kombinat Tri
Rc-20
SDRR2
Sketch Cassette
Decapitator
Degrader

Not all typical distortion but plenty of nice colour..

The Ableton Amp and Pedal default FX are quite good, I tend to use those a lot these days.

I've found my most used saturation plugin after Ableton's stock saturation is iZotope Trash 2, specifically for its multiband feature.

What are you using it for mostly?

I just get the best results from it just through serendipity and it seems people who play with those type of distortion filter bank thingamabobs like the Sherman filter bank.

Mostly as kind of a fuzz/distorted autofilter.
Alot of the time to add some rhytmical distortion/texture to bass.

I picked this one up when it was free on black Monday and it's probably my go-to distortion now.

Kinda jack of all trades and built in ducking/eq is nice.

Not as far as I know. They have theirs way how to manage plugins called Waves central, which is unnecessary garbage in my view, but bought couple of their plugins in one of their sales and found out about it afterwards. It's basically one dll files and somehow it aggregates all other installed plugins in what looks like a folder in your DAW. Od course I'm not Apple user, so I cannot tell how it looks like on that side.
